“… I would recommend students surround themselves with passionate and motivated people, seek mentorship, and interact more with others.”
The latest newsletter features Dr. Swapnil Jagtap, Global CO2 Initiative Post-doctoral Research Fellow and the most recent addition to the GCI team.
Swapnil is working on an industry-sponsored project on the prospect of the emerging technology of CO2-made sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the US. The project considers environmental, social lifecycle, and economic / market analysis as well identifying future market opportunities.
You have an extraordinary number of awards & accolades: 2020 Forbes 30 under 30 Disruptor & Game-changer (Manufacturing and Industry), 2021 Georgia Tech 40 under 40 trend-setter & people to watch, 2022 MIT Technology Review Innovators under 35, etc. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I cherish the process of achieving goals or awards more than the awards themselves.
If I had to pick one accomplishment that I am most proud of, it would be something not mentioned above. I lost 66 pounds in just 3 months while running and walking 1,000 km and cycling 4,000 km, which was a longtime goal of mine, as I have been ignoring my health.
What brought you to GCI?
GCI has a proven track record of CCU related research, including life cycle and techno-economic analysis. At GCI, I am continuing and building on my PhD research as part of my post-doctoral research, where I am examining the prospect of the CO2-made SAF in the US while considering environmental and social life cycle analysis, along with the economic aspects of market analysis and identifying future market opportunities.
