Newsletter Features Stephanie Hanford

This issue of the Global CO2 Initiative (GCI) newsletter features Stephanie Hanford, the newest member of the GCI Advisory Board, and Senior Manager, Climate and Energy, Steel, Ceres

Stephanie has spent the last 25 years working in sustainable development, focusing on the systemic challenges of balancing economic, social and environmental needs. She launched a successful consulting company, Connectivity Consulting, and sits on the board of the Jocotoco Conservation Foundation, in addition to recently becoming a GCI Advisory Board Member. She holds a M.A. (Law and Diplomacy) from The Fletcher School, Tufts University and a B.A. (French and Business Administration) from Loyola College in Maryland.

How would you describe what you currently do in such a way that a child would understand?

There are many choices you get to make in life. One of those choices is what type of job you do. It is helpful to think about what you are passionate about or what you really like. 

I really like nature so I set out to find a job where I could try to make a contribution to protecting nature. Now, I work with companies that want to provide products without causing a lot of pollution. As a society, we are always finding new ways to innovate and improve our technology so that we can create a healthier world

How did you get connected to the Global CO2 Initiative (GCI)? 

I first learned about the GCI many years ago in its infancy via early contributors. At that time, I did not fully understand the potential of carbon capture and utilization (CCU). This potential still remains largely untapped, but I can envision a world where this is common-place. The University of Michigan is a great home for it!
